Ellu Sadham (Sesame seed Rice)

One of my favourite rice item that goes very nice with potato fry is Sesame seed rice. "This is the favourite food for Hanuman and Perumal " says my grandmom. So on saturdays, since my childhood, atleast one spoon of this rice will be served in our plate.

This rice has very good nutritional values.

Ingredients:

Sesame seeds (white/black) - 3 tsp
Dried Red chilli - 3-4 No
Curry leaves - 5 - 10 leaves
Thoor dhall - 1 tsp
Asafoetida powder - a generous pinch
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Salt for taste
Cooked rice - 1 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp

Steps:

Heat the pan with oil. Once the oil is hot, put mustard seeds and let it burst fully.
Put Thoor dhaal, Sesame seeds ( I used black sesame seeds) , then red chillies
Add asafoetida powder and curry leaves, then salt. Stir well until cooked.

Once the ingredients emit a pleasant aroma, place them in a mixer and grind them throughly.
(Do not add water)

Mix the ground seeds with hot rice and serve hot.

As I mentioned it goes well with potato curry.

African Peanut Soup

Recently, I subscribed to a food magazine called BBC's Good Food India. I found exotic, simple, tasty and easy recipes from the magazine. One such recipe is African Peanut Soup. I decided to make this easy and colurful soup for my hubby this weekend and shopped Keya various seasonings for the same.

I tried my hands in making a dish of this kind this morning. The soup turned out to be the best soup I ever made. Let me post a step by step tutorial for this yummy soup and my husband's comment here.

African Peanut Soup Recipe:

Ingredients are shown below

  • 2 onion , roughly chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves , roughly chopped ( I used Ginger garlic paste -- 1 tbsp)
  • a 3cm chunk ginger , roughly chopped
  • 2 red chilli , seeded and chopped
  • oil , for frying
  • 4 chopped tomatoes
  • 2 cups of beans stock
  • 2 level tbsp smooth organic peanut butter

In the processor, I ground onion, red chilli and ginger garlic paste into a chunky paste.
Tomatoes should be finely chopped. I used both 2 medium size tomatoes along with 2 berry tomatoes
Cook the chunky paste for 3 to 4 minutes with hot oil in a wok. I felt a perfect aroma of ginger, garlic and onion filling the kitchen and was a great healthy feeling. Adding chopped tomates to the wok is our next step.
Pour in the hot beans stock into the mixture and add salt for taste.
Stir in 2 tbsp of peanut butter along with chinese seasonings into the soup and shimmer.
I blent in seasoning in peanut butter before adding it to the soup mixture. This Keya Chinese Seasoning added extra taste and aroma to the African soup. Heat the soup till it is thick, blend it in the food processor and the soup can be made thick and smooth.

This African Peanut soup is a healthy colourful one which boosts a weekend in a great way. This serves 4 people.

I served this African Peanut soup with Garlic bread and boiled and buttered beans. Try this soup and this soup sounds healthy.

Hubby's writes

It was almost 21 days now, I am back from Sydney. I feel like there is something missing when I compare those days. I discussed with Priyaa (My wife). I used to have English breakfast (bread with milk) before starting to office. And used to walk 45 min to reach my office. After coming to India, I dumped myself with south Indian meals and added more weight within 10 days of time.

Planning as usual to reduce the weight to look, feel better and fit. So I had a thought process why not follow the same principal followed in Sydney to reduce weight. As a starter today we had partial English breakfast with African peanut soup. It’s good to have such an international delight in the morning itself.

My Mid day Indulgence

I am not sweet toothed. But sometimes my carving for sweets ranging from savouries to cakes is huge. I am bit consicious on my diet these days ;). Once in a while to appreciate my efforts in maintaining my diet, I pamper myself with my favourite food.

During my busy day at work, my tummy kept thinking of Cakes. This is chirstmas time. From my childhood my tummy is turned to carve for cakes during these holidays.

Strawberry

I made up my mind to indulge on cakes for lunch. I skipped my lunch and checked out the cake corner in our office cafe. I was spellbound with the varieties of flavours. I chose Strawberry flavour at last.

Choco Vanilla Cake
Vanilla with Choco Scrumbs
Mango
Pure Chocolate Cake

It was soft, moist  and creamy. The taste was awesome. That piece of cake had 7 layers and was topped with mixed fruit jelly jam and vanilla cream. The huge slab of cake was more for my lunch. I had invited no friends for lunch that day for my secret indulgence. So stuffed my tummy with this yummy delicasy.

Should tune my tummy for the diet again :(

Happy Christmas.

PetsCare Vaccinate your pup

Recently we welcomed our sweet boy (cute lil Rotweilier). It was 4 months old. We bought him from a well off family who had two Russian bred Rotweiliers. Sweet boy was awesome and my brother named him "Leo"(name changed).I enjoyed being with him. We called our vet and asked him to vaccinate him as this was our regular practise of vaccinating our pups. We usually get home puppies who are very little (say 35 days pup) and the exception was Tom (he was 6 to 7 months).
It seems the ex owners of my pup didnt feed him well . So come on we were in full swing getting him chews, porridges, eggs yogurt , milk etc for him..

After a day or two of vaccination he fell down sick. My dad and vet were his medicos. They finalised that he is affected by Paro Virus which can only be avoided only if the pup is vaccineated for the virus after 40 days of its birth. As the ex owners  didnt vaccinate him soon after the 40th day!..

As my father was a surgeon , he know the pup will have inflamed digestive track so no input is going to work. He injected him a candler and fed him through IVs, this happened for 3 days. the pup struggled a lot but co operated the treatment. (WOW ) I was mesmerised with its patience.

Now he is happily playing along with his counterparts... My family 's love is very much for pets esp dogs. I love dogs. I have cute doggies love me and thinking of me each sec showing their love to me and expect the only thing in return love...

My inspiration on loving pets came from my DAD.He loves DOGS.He taught me to grow dogs.

I request all dog growers and lovers to take proper care of your dogs, feed them well.

Please VACCINATE them and protect them from DISEASES.Maintain a book to record the date of vaccinations and type of the same... Pets rely on us.

Love you pets!
